France has proposed a discount on the purchase of Rafale fighter jets if Greece proceeds with its plans to transfer its Mirage 2000 aircraft to Ukraine.

According to French Aid to Europe and e-Αmyna, citing an offer from Dassault Aviation, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to present the proposal during his visit to Greece on April 24.

The current agreement предусматривает the transfer of 43 Greek aircraft to Ukraine, including 24 Mirage 2000-5 jets and 19 retired Mirage 2000 EGM/BGM aircraft, along with spare parts.

To fill the gap left by the potential transfer, France is offering a “similar number” of Rafale fighter jets at a discounted price. Through the exchange, the 114th Fighter Wing would be able to fully equip two squadrons, totaling 36 Rafale aircraft.

The specific terms of the deal and the exact cost of the equipment are expected to be clarified by both parties during negotiations. The proposal comes at a time when France continues to push Greece to transfer equipment to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Greece’s plans to sell older fighter jet models first became known in March 2024. However, the issue has recently become more urgent amid intensified Franco-Greek defense contacts, as France seeks broader support for Ukraine.
